The Good and the Bad

The Internet is a vast resource for astronomical information. Usenet is a part of it. There are a lot of groups aiming specifically at certain countries, and unfortunately also a lot of groups mainly populated by crackpots. Most are claiming Einstein was wrong, Big Bang theory is nonsense, and man never went to the Moon. As always these claims come forth from utter lack of knowledge. One of the most helpful Internet sites to counter these idiotic claims is from Phil Plait, and is called Bad Astronomy. Remember: it’s not the volume with which an opinion is vented, it’s the quality.

A helpful newsgroup is sci.astro.amateur (if you use a newsreader), aimed at mutual assistance when observing the skies. You can also visit it through Google Groups, although you then have to reckon with the usual spam.
